The Advantages of Solar-Powered Green Factories

We are Irelands most trusted packaging manufacturer helping build global brands. Established in 1984 and based in Dundrum Dublin we joined The Asteria Group in 2022 and are one of Irelands largest self-adhesive label and packaging manufacturer, supplying to the pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical devices, cosmetic, veterinary and the food and drinks industry.

The objective of The Asteria Group and Label Crafts quality team is to ensure that the highest standard of quality is achieved and maintained throughout every process of production, from artwork approval to product release.

Towards the end of 2022 Label Craft joined the Asteria Group and aligned with their sustainability practices at their Dublin factory in Ireland. The Asteria group at large proudly boasts a wide range of sustainable raw materials at its disposal. Moreover, as a group we closely follow all ecological market developments and proactively search for innovative, sustainable materials together.

As much as possible, the Asteria Group wants to use alternative sources of energy such as solar power. For example, the installation of solar panels at one of our production sites accounts for more than 25% of its energy consumption. In addition, this results in an average CO2 reduction of 31 tonnes per year for that site. Our Label Craft Dublin factory installed its Solar Power in 2023.

Modern industrial practices are increasingly adopting sustainable practices, with solar-powered green factories leading the way. As companies worldwide prioritise environmental responsibility, the adoption of solar energy has become a transformative approach to achieving sustainable manufacturing. Let’s explore the numerous benefits these factories bring.

Reduction in Peak Energy Demand

Solar systems generate the most energy during the peak sunlight hours, which coincides with the peak industrial energy demands, thereby reducing the reliance on the grid.

Decreased Reliance on Fossil Fuels

By harnessing solar energy, factories decrease the demand for non-renewable resources, thereby conserving finite resources.

Strengthening Public Image

Consumers are increasingly supporting businesses that prioritise sustainability. By adopting solar power, businesses can enhance their brand image as eco-friendly leaders.

Mitigating Climate Change

A transition to solar energy directly addresses global warming by limiting pollutants that trap heat in the atmosphere.

Meeting Stakeholder Expectations

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are critical for investors. Adopting solar energy aligns with these priorities.

Lower Electricity Bills

Factories often consume enormous amounts of electricity. Switching to solar energy significantly reduces utility expenses because solar power becomes virtually free after installation.

Reduction in Carbon Emissions

Solar factories eliminate the burning of fossil fuels, drastically reducing the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. For example, a medium-sized solar-powered factory can offset thousands of metric tons of CO₂ annually.

Long-Term ROI

The initial investment in solar panels pays off over time through energy savings and government incentives.

Attracting Eco-Conscious Consumers

Studies indicate that contemporary consumers favour products manufactured ethically, positioning solar-powered factories as a competitive advantage.
